Volunteers Needed for Floodplain Committee

Foxfield Residents,

We would like to invite you to be a part of our Floodplain Committee that is being formed to address the several areas in our Town that may be affected by floodplains.

Why is this Committee being created?

Mile High Flood District (MHFD) has informed us that in the next 5-7 years, several areas of Foxfield can be designated as floodplain areas. MHFD would like to collaborate with Foxfield residents to inform them where the floodplains are, how these designations will affect the surrounding properties, and what actions need to be taken. The most efficient way to do this is to create a committee composed of 1-2 Trustees and 3-5 Foxfield residents. This Committee will receive the information firsthand and decide the best way to distribute this information to the rest of the Town.

Who can be part of the Committee?

If you are a Foxfield resident, you can request to be part of this Committee. We are looking for residents that are affected by the floodplain area, or live close by, to be able to receive an informed perspective on how these different properties are affected. Please see the map below. The red lines indicate the general area of two main drainageways. We encourage anyone interested to apply! Your contribution will benefit your property, your neighbors, and the Town of Foxfield as a whole.

How often will this Committee meet?

The Committee will meet with MHFD and Town Staff a few times this fall to establish a basis of understanding. Please plan on at least one hour, once a month, for the next 2-3 months. After that, the Committee will only meet once every 3-6 months in the future.

How can I sign up?

If you are interested in joining the Floodplain Committee, please email Clerk@TownOfFoxfield.com with the following information:

  • Name

  • Address

  • Phone number

  • Your availability to meet with the Committee (i.e. Thursday afternoon)

Please send in this information by September 27th, 2024, as we will be making our selections the following week.

We understand that many residents will be concerned about how these Floodplain designations will affect them individually, but please be assured that with the help of this Floodplain Committee your concerns and questions will be addressed. We thank you in advance for your willingness to participate and contribute to solving the issues that affect Foxfield!
